Wins Gold at iGEM International Competition
In the recently concluded 2025 International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) Competition, the Hong Kong joint school team, formed by our school and five other secondary schools, stood out among over 100 high school teams worldwide with their innovative project "PestiGuard," proudly winning a Gold Medal and securing a spot in the global top ten of the High School Division, bringing honor to Hong Kong.
"PestiGuard" is a convenient biosensor specifically designed to detect pesticide residues in food. The project integrates genetic engineering and software development, using the intensity of fluorescent signals to visually indicate pesticide concentration. It is equipped with a dedicated analysis application, enabling users to quickly and accurately assess food safety. This innovative design also earned special awards, including "Best Software—2nd Place Globally," "Best Model," and "Best Environment Project"—Top Five Globally, fully demonstrating the project's excellence in both technological innovation and practicality.
This outstanding achievement not only affirms the students' hard work in biotechnology and interdisciplinary fields but also showcases the scientific research potential and international competitiveness of Hong Kong students in solving real-world problems. Let us congratulate the award-winning students together and look forward to their continued contributions to society through technological innovation in the future!
