Selected Again for HK Delegation to Compete in 51st International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva

Our Secondary 4 student Wu Pei Jun, collaborating with students from a partner school, has achieved outstanding success in the Hong Kong regional selection of the "51st International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva." Their innovative invention, the "PestiGuard" smart biosensor, earned them a place in the Hong Kong delegation, and they will travel to Geneva, Switzerland in March 2026 to participate in this globally renowned innovation event. This marks the second consecutive year that a student from our school has been selected as a Hong Kong representative, reaffirming the fruitful outcomes of our school's scientific research education.

The competition, organized by the New Generation Culture Association, brought together outstanding young inventors from across Hong Kong. During the finals, Wu and her team presented their meticulously developed "PestiGuard" smart detection system. This innovative invention employs cutting-edge synthetic biology technology, utilizing specialized RNA aptamers that undergo structural changes upon binding to pesticide molecules, thereby triggering alterations in fluorescent signals to achieve rapid pesticide residue detection. The device further integrates smart hardware and software analysis, instantly converting detection results into clear visual signals, allowing users to intuitively assess food safety conditions.

The major breakthrough of "PestiGuard" lies in its simplification of traditionally complex laboratory testing procedures into a portable, user-friendly on-site detection tool. Its innovative design not only addresses the issues of high cost and long processing times associated with existing pesticide detection methods but also realizes the transition of technology "from the laboratory to the field," enabling the general public to perform food safety testing anytime, anywhere. The judging panel highly commended the project's outstanding performance in both technological innovation and social utility value.

This selection to represent Hong Kong at the International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva is not only a recognition of the students' scientific research capabilities but also a significant milestone in our school's promotion of innovation and technology education. Let us look forward to Wu and her team achieving further success on the international stage, bringing glory to Hong Kong!
