Mrs. Rita Fan Hsu Lai-tai Visits the School to Share – Theme: The Story of China's Poverty Alleviation
On January 2, 2026, a unique sharing session was held on campus. Mrs. Rita FAN HSU Lai-tai, former President of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong, visited our school to deliver a vivid lecture on national development with the theme "The Story of China's Poverty Alleviation." This event not only allowed everyone to gain a deep understanding of China's remarkable achievements in poverty alleviation but also ignited students' enthusiasm and reflections on national development.
Drawing from her extensive political experience and unique perspective, Mrs. Fan eloquently recounted the history and current status of China's poverty alleviation efforts. Starting from the early days of reform and opening-up, she described how China, through targeted poverty alleviation policies, helped hundreds of millions escape poverty. Mrs. Fan shared several real-life cases, such as infrastructure development in remote mountainous areas, industrial poverty alleviation projects, and the application of technology in agriculture, which revitalized impoverished villages. She emphasized that China's poverty alleviation model is not just economic aid but empowers people to achieve self-reliance, embodying the "people-centered" development philosophy. This is not only China's story but also a global model for poverty reduction, demonstrating the responsibility of a major power.
During the session, Mrs. Fan connected these stories to the broader context of current national development. She pointed out that poverty alleviation achievements are a microcosm of China's comprehensive building of a moderately prosperous society, and now the country is advancing toward common prosperity. Through these narratives, students not only understood the trajectory of national progress but also felt the close connection between individuals and the nation.
The Q&A sessiont was particularly exciting, with students actively participating and eagerly asking questions. Some inquired about how poverty alleviation policies could be applied in Hong Kong, while others discussed challenges in sustainable development. Mrs. Fan patiently answered, encouraging young people to actively engage in national construction. The entire session was full of interaction, and the students' enthusiasm elevated the atmosphere.
This sharing session not only enriched campus culture but also enlightened teachers and students on national development. Mrs. Rita Fan Hsu Lai-tai's visit was like a beacon, illuminating the path forward for the younger generation.
