F3 Other Learning Experiences (OLE) Day: Learning Mathematics Through Board Games

Form 3 students challenged their mental limits amidst laughter through exciting board games! For this activity, two classic games, "Take 6!" and "Blokus", were specially selected to allow students to deepen their higher-order mathematical thinking through practical gameplay:

"Take 6!" and Advanced Logical Deduction: In this highly unpredictable card game, Form 3 students are no longer confined to basic number sequencing; instead, they must apply advanced game strategies. Students need to constantly observe the state of play, conduct dynamic risk assessments, read their opponents' psychology, and predict their moves. This allows their brains to engage in precise, high-level logical calculations without even realizing it.

"Blokus" and Complex Geometric Layouts: This board game perfectly complements the learning of geometry in mathematics. Students must perform complex, multi-dimensional mental rotations and assemble various irregular polygonal blocks—a process that involves precise calculations for spatial optimization and geometric constraints. They must not only plan the expansion of their own territory but also use geometric strategies to perfectly block their opponents, elevating 2D spatial problem-solving to a comprehensive strategic level.

Through these entertaining and educational activities, the students not only demonstrated a high level of engagement but also profoundly realized that mathematics is not just a series of formulas. Rather, it is a fun, advanced wisdom that can be flexibly applied to games and strategies. Feel free to check out their activity photos!
