Our students won the Third Prize and the Best Video Award in URA x PolyU Igniting Social Innovation Competition 2026
Jointly organized by the Urban Renewal Authority (URA) and the Department of Applied Social Sciences (APSS) of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the "URA x PolyU Igniting Social Innovation Competition 2026" aims to encourage Hong Kong secondary school students to explore and understand urban renewal issues in Hong Kong through innovative, district-based approaches, while fostering their interest in applied social sciences, urban studies, and community development.
Adopting an interdisciplinary approach, the competition integrates knowledge from the social sciences with emerging technologies—such as artificial intelligence (AI), 360-degree cameras, and geospatial data—to help participants deepen their understanding of the social and community challenges in urban renewal, as well as how these issues connect to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, particularly "Sustainable Cities and Communities" and "Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure." Furthermore, the competition provides a platform for participants to propose innovative and practical solutions for real-life urban renewal scenarios.
