Night Hiking Leader Training (2)
On the evening of 13 December, Form 1 students participated in the Night Hiking Leader Training activity organised by the Hong Kong Chinese YMCA. The event was held along the Gin Drinkers' Line at Shing Mun Battle Relics Trail, aiming to allow participants to experience the joy of night hiking in a natural environment while learning about Hong Kong's wartime history and culture.
Under a bright full moon, the students, led by Vice-Principal Leung, Ms. Lau Yan Teacher, and professional instructors, set off along Stage 6 of the MacLehose Trail. They passed through historical sites including the Grade II historic building Shing Mun Redoubt, trenches, military coordinates, and tunnel ventilation shafts, gaining a deeper understanding of the original purpose behind the construction of the Gin Drinkers' Line defence system.
As this was the students' first night hike, they encouraged one another to overcome fear and anxiety, taking their first steps to face various challenges. Upon reaching the summit, they were rewarded with a stunning night view of the Kwai Tsing urban landscape and eagerly took photos to capture the unforgettable moment.
During the return journey, the students shared their feelings and observations, reigniting their appreciation for both nature and the city. Under the night sky, everyone spent a wonderful time together, making this night hike a meaningful opportunity to truly understand Hong Kong's cultural heritage. Through the challenges, each student learned the importance of courage and teamwork.
